What a week in politics!! Did anyone believe Rick Santorum would take the lead in Colorado, Missouri and Minnesota? No one predicted it! 

It has been said that in political campaigns it all comes down to the three M's: Money, Momentum and Message. Santorum did not have the first two … but his Message, his Conservative Message has been heard by Republicans. Now, the other two Ms may follow. We all know that when A attacks B, and B attacks A, C gains points.  While Romney and Gingrich were attacking each other passionately, Santorum was picking up votes. 

Now, these three state wins don't mean that Santorum will win the Republican nomination. It is true that many of the Gingrich voters have moved over to Santorum's side, some of the Romney supporters are giving him a second look and all the undecideds are listening carefully. Why? Because Republican voters are tired of negative campaigning. (You may have heard me say that negative campaigns work. They are distasteful … but work. Nevertheless, after a while, voters want Message not attacks only.) 

We, Hispanics, may not agree with Santorum's lack of immigration sensitivity (and at some point he must listen to our arguments in favor of Comprehensive Immigration Reform or we will have a hard time giving him our total support), but we must recognize that he knows how to present a Conservative message that appeals to Evangelicals, Catholics, small business owners, … Conservatives in general. While the other two are attacking each other, I repeat, Santorum has been speaking to voters and winning them over. Now, for him to win nomination, he needs to get the three other Ms: Money and Momentum. And It is going to be hard.

What about Gingrich? It may be too late for Gingrich to regain his solid second place. He must stop attacking and tell us why he should be president. He must tell us how he can beat President Obama, how he can turn the economy around, how he will support … for example, Hispanic issues.  Santorum has time on his side. He can work the three Ms until Super Tuesday. Gingrich must act now! Santorum is taking his voters away.

By the way, Romney, a mormon, has a great opportunity to win over Catholics (and many Evangelicals … and Hispanic Catholics).  He should attack President Obama on the issue of forced contraceptive health care! Super Tuesday is coming too soon for Romney. He can win but he must stop attacking Gingrich, attack President Obama and give us all some positive Ms!!!
